Commemorative ForeverĀ® Stamp First-Day-of-Issue Ceremony Black Heritage Series Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026 11 a.m. EST
Old South Meeting House 310 Washington Street Boston, MA 02108 Join us at the historic Old South Meeting House in Boston as we commemorate the 49th Black Heritage Series stamp, which pays tribute to the mother of African American literature, Phillis Wheatley (circa 1753-1784). She was the first author of African descent to publish a book of poetry in the American Colonies. The Old South Meeting House is recognized as the second-oldest establishment still in existence in the United States and has served as a significant gathering place for nearly three centuries. To honor the life of Phillis Wheatley, what better location could there be than the Old South Meeting House, where she was baptized? As a member, she discovered a community and a profound spiritual connection.
